Many protest against traffic sentinel scheme in goa   no comments

Posted at 3:10 am in Uncategorized

The goan government had launched the traffic sentinel scheme with great fanfare, and it is getting a lot of coverage in the media. However many vehicle owners who are getting challans from the traffic sentinel, are feeling that they are being punished unfairly.
In shiroda, the people who got the traffic challan were so upset, that they attacked a mobile shop owner, who they claimed was taking their photos using the cctv camera in front of his shop for issuing the challans.
The mobile phone shop owner, was forced to vacate his shop immediately
In some places like ponda, many people are protesting against the scheme, claiming that they are being harassed.
However in panaji, especially on the St Inez, miramar road, there is no traffic sentinel at all, and many people are openly violating the traffic rules, talking on their mobile.

High vehicle density increases vehicle fares in Goa   no comments

Posted at 3:41 am in cars, vehicle

Among all the states in India, goa has one of the highest taxi and rickshaw fares for any distance because the government is not taking any measures to make the vehicle fares more affordable. This is probably because goa has one of the highest vehicle densities in India, with most families having a car or scooter which they use for travel and do not use the public transport system.
So most of people in goa using the expensive taxis and rickshaws are tourists visiting the state who have plenty of money, and some locals who do not drive vehicles due to safety and other reasons. If most of the people used hired vehicles like taxis, rickshaws, the fares would be far more reasonable and affordable to more citizens, who are forced to stay at home or curtail their travel plans.
